"𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐩𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧?"

"𝐈 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭? 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐩𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧?" I often get asked this question, and though my answer may vary depending on the context, considerations, conditions, consequences, and circumstance, most of the time, my answer revolves around this thinking: 𝘐'𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘧𝘢𝘳, 𝘸𝘩𝘺 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘨𝘰 𝘢 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳, 𝘪𝘧 𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯? This is particularly so in the context of the Singapore Management University Pegasus Overseas Grant which I'm fundraising for. The target was $50,000. With $50,000, the endowment grant will be able to generate $2,666 each year, every year, to enable one financially challenged SMU student to benefit from an overseas exchange programme in the region. Thanks to so many big-hearted family, friends and associates, we've reached $50,000 on 27 January 2025, 10 days from the launch. But I soon learnt that wit...

New grant launched, support still needed

Image
A wefie of givers to the gift that keeps on giving The U-Lounge of Singapore Management University was buzzing between 5 and 9pm on Saturday 18 January 2025, with some 100 guests coming together to commemorate the launch of the SMU Pegasus Overseas Exchange Grant, a brand new initiative that would enable one financially challenged SMU student to go on an overseas exchange each year, every year in perpetuity. Some of the guests who were part of the 5-7pm segment Some of the guests who were part of the 7-9pm segment Just crossed the halfway mark to $50,000 fundraising target The grant may have only just been launched, but has already raised more than half of the $50,000 fundraising target. There's still about half to be raised before the grant can achieve its potential. _________________________ I'm indebted to the wonderful folks at SMU Office of Advancement led by Wai Leng, without whom, this grant and evening would not have been a reality. In particular, I must thank Sam who...

Why 50 for 50?

Image
"At 50, everyone has the face he deserves." George Orwell’s quote may carry different meanings, but I like Tal Gur's interpretation :  "...It invites us to embrace the wisdom of aging, to reflect on the legacy we are creating , and to nurture the qualities that define our true essence. Ultimately, it serves as a reminder that our faces are not just reflections of the past but also canvases upon which we can paint the portrait of our best selves." I have received many blessings in my five decades orbiting around the sun. Like my overseas exchange programme to Germany when I was in Junior College. Or the military and academic awards from the Republic of Singapore Navy to train at Britannia Royal Naval College and to study at the University of Sheffield , both in UK. And the scholarship jointly offered by the Workforce Development Agency, Institute of Public Relations of Singapore, and Singapore Management University which funded my Master of Science in Communic...
